D-DAY HEL

We invite you to participate in the historical event “D-Day Hel”, our annual historical reenactment focused on the events of June 6, 1944. D-Day Hel is an exceptionally realistic and educational reconstruction of the European theatre of World War II and the Normandy invasion on D-Day. Since 2006, this reenactment of the Allied landings on the French coast of Normandy has amazed thousands of spectators.

The event takes place in a seaside town at the very tip of the Hel Peninsula. The main battle reenactment is staged on the Hel Spit. Other areas of Hel provide locations for reenacting skirmishes inland between occupying German forces, French resistance fighters, and Allied troops. Spectators have an excellent and unobstructed view of the battlefield.

The encampments of Allied and Axis forces offer visitors a full military experience of the 1940s. Life by the sea, at home, and in the camps of soldiers, sailors, and airmen who took part in the real landings is realistically recreated using original equipment, uniforms, and vehicles.

D-Day Hel is a remarkable historical spectacle inspired by the largest amphibious landing operation of the Allies in Normandy in June 1944. Operation Overlord was a military campaign that began with the successful invasion of German-occupied France on June 6, 1944, and lasted until the end of August. The Normandy landings marked the beginning of the Western Front in World War II.

What distinguishes D-Day Hel from similar events is its duration, location, and overall concept. The spectacle takes place in a seaside resort at the end of the Hel Spit. For over seven days, the town of Hel is transformed into a World War II battlefield hub.

During the event, dozens of original and historical military vehicles from the World War II era are presented. Hundreds of reenactors portray soldiers fighting and living on the Western Front. The most popular attractions are the highly spectacular reenactments featuring historical weapons, armored vehicles, and dramatic pyrotechnic effects.

In addition to reenactments, D-Day Hel includes other events such as 1940s music concerts, fashion shows, competitions, and vehicle parades. Events take place throughout the town, especially in popular tourist areas.

The event is organized by the Foundation for Military Technical Heritage in Bielsko-Biała, Poland.
